Welcome to the world little Ms. Blue Ivy Carter. Only a day old and there is already so much fuss over you and your most beautiful name. If you ask us at MTV’s RapFix, we think your parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z couldn’t have picked a better name for you, their first born. Fans were sure your dad would christen you Brooklyn Carter, after he said he would on his 2007 American Gangster, but he was just using poetic license, paying homage to his hometown. We like Blue Ivy much better.
Actually, we think that your name has more than just a nice ring to it. If you take a look back at Papa Hov’s history, he has had quite the fascination with the color blue and it doesn’t seem too far fetched to mention that “Ivy” could represent IV (your parent’s lucky number 4). We know you may be too young to understand, but don’t fret Baby Carter, RapFix will break it all down.
The Blueprint Trilogy
Many call it Jay-Z’s greatest album, but no matter where you stand in the Reasonable Doubt vs. The Blueprint debate, most hip-hop fans can agree that Hov’s 2001 album is a classic. More than just a simple boast of his rap prowess, Jay carried the theme to task. From the blue-tinted album art to the two volumes that followed (The Blueprint 2 in 2002 and The Blueprint 3 in 2009), Jigga’s career has become synonymous with the color. ”My favorite hue is Jay-Z Blue”

Some rappers deliver lyrics just because they sound good, but Jay-Z is not one of those rappers. More often than not if Hov spits it, there is meaning behind it. The line may have seemed insignificant in 2005, but when Jay rhymed “My favorite hue is Jay-Z Blue” on Young Jeezy’s “Go Crazy” it wasn’t just rapper rhetoric. Hov, who is equally adapt in the booth and the boardroom, worked with marketing expert Steve Stoute to brand his own color.
In the original plan was to get Hov his own branded “Jay-Z Blue” GM Jeep, but things didn’t quite goes as planned, though Stoute recently told Complex magazine that “Jay-Z Blue” is still in the works.

On the lead single to Frank Lucas’ biopic, Jay-Z flexes his passion for the color over his expressions of his past hustle. According to Hov, the “Feds are like wack rappers” both in pursuit of his potent product.
“The Blueprint For Greatness”
In the months following his NBA basketball team the Brooklyn Nets’ pending move to his stomping grounds Hov and Nets czar Mikhail Prokhorov had a massive billboard erected on Broadway just across the street from the home base of the New York Knicks’ Madison Square Garden. In what was considered a gutsy move, the strategy was credited to Prokhorov but the concept had Jay-Z’s name written all over it.
