Timbaland is the most recent subject of E!’s "True Hollywood Story" series and on Tuesday night’s episode (December 20) the producer drops a small tidbit of information that might interest 90s hip-hop fans. In addition to talking about his musical history with artists such as Missy Elliott and Aaliyah, Timbo also reveals that he was in love with the "Try Again" singer when he first met her.
"When I first met Aaliyah—it's time for the world to hear this—I'm gonna give a little secret, I was in love with her,” Timbaland admitted to the public for the first time, explaining that he didn’t make any moves on those feelings. "I said, 'She’s just a baby, I'm old'. I said to myself, 'I'm just gonna be her brother.’ Oh man, I was fightin', I was fightin' a lot , a big war. But I loved Aaliyah."
Timbaland crafted several of Aaliyah’s hits including “Hot like Fire,” “One in a Million,” “If Your Girl Only Knew” and “4 Page Letter.” The Brooklyn-born singer and actor died in a plane crash at the age of 22, while traveling from The Bahamas on August 25 2001.
In the episode Timbaland also opens up about his struggle with weight loss, explaining why he eventually shed so many pounds. “I’m looking in the mirror, my breast is bigger than a girl breast,” he says. “And I was saying, ‘That ain’t cool.’ So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed.”
