As news of Dwight “Heavy D” Myers’ sudden and tragic death rippled through the web on Tuesday afternoon, fans of the Mount Vernon, New York native expressed their dismay via social media. As a popular fixture on Twitter, Heavy D’s online presence was as outsized as his celebrated girth and he often engaged his 150,000-plus followers. Heavy D’s final message “BE INSPRIED” was posted on Monday (November 7) and it was indicative of the rapper’s positive outlook and tweeting style.
A look back at Myers’ timeline shows him giving glowing props to boxing legend Joe Frazier, who succumbed to cancer early this week. Heavy joined other entertainers on Twitter offering their condolences, which caused some fans to whether news of his sudden death was valid. Heavy D’s tagline on Twitter directly captured the essence of his persona. The tagline “I have relentless optimism” certainly rang true as Hev routinely tweeted inspirational quotes and always took time to thank fans who tweeted adoring words to him.
Heavy enthusiastically tweeted about seeing a stage production of Driving Miss Daisy featuring veteran actor James Earl Jones while in London on November 3. “Just saw the GREAT James Earl Jones in london, live on stage in a production of DRIVING MS DAISY! #awesome,” read Heavy’s tweet, complete with a twitpic of Jones.
Upon his return to the States on November 4, Heavy D spoke of heading to his home in Los Angeles for some leisure time. He continued the positive output on his timeline with a tweet that read, “Back in the USA.. I love my life.. Only because I always have!!! BLESS UP!”
Heavy D and his warm words will certainly be missed by many.
