Drake and his OVOXO team get a lot of love, and on “Crew Love” from his sophomore LP Take Care, the 25-year-old puts his appreciation for the squad on full display. The Weeknd sets the song's tone, crooning over a persistent and pounding percussion. While the Toronto singer directs his portion of the track to the ladies, Drake flips the script and rattles off support for his exclusive group of friends. “There are times that I might blow like 50k on a vacation/ For all my soldiers just to see the looks on all their faces.”
“Tell ’em I’ma need reservations for 20/ I never really been one for the preservation of money,” he continues to rap.
One of the friendships that Drake is particularly proud of is his bond with The Weeknd. “He’s like a writer, collaborator on four songs on my album which I’m very proud of,” Drizzy told MTV News during a rehearsal for his Saturday Night Live appearance in October. “I usually don’t branch out writing-wise working with other people. I usually like to write all my own stuff, but we get it. We try to tap into the same emotions because we’re from the same city.”
While many speculate on whether or not a deal is in place, Drake assures us that there isn’t. “He’s not signed right now, he’s still in the city, he hasn’t left. He’s never been on a plane before. I don’t think he’s ever left the city,” Drizzy said. “He’s a real Toronto kid that’s just one of the most talented people I’ve ever come across.”
Now that’s crew love.
