On Monday night (October 31), fans who showed up at the Fillmore theater in Miami for Odd Future's concert got a special Halloween treat from the city's favorite resident—sorry Uncle Luke—and it seemed for a moment that the Wolf Gang had gained a brand new member. Although OF front man Tyler, The Creator’s controversial skinhead costume undoubtedly turned heads, Young Money boss Lil Wayne upped the ante by appearing onstage decked out in a werewolf mask, furry paws and red pajama pants with his long locks flowing.
Wayne’s connection to Odd Future isn’t a new one, as the New Orleans native has spoken highly of the group in the past. Weezy dubbed himself a fan of Odd Future's movement during a recent MTV News interview, which highlighted his affinity for the zany West Coast collective. “I just rock with ’em. Shout out my man Taco that’s my dude,” Weezy said. “I’m just real cool with the homies. Shouts out Tyler.”
Lil Wayne continued doting on the crew by emphasizing his connection and kinship with OF’s Taco Bennett. Video of Taco and Wayne surfaced on the web in September showing the pair skateboarding while in Los Angeles at the Supreme clothing store. During the interview, Wayne showed more than just a passing interest in the crew. “I’m gonna catch a few of their shows, go check out a few of their shows and stuff,” said Wayne, who clearly made good on his word.
Although Lil Wayne appeared alongside Tyler, The Creator on Game’s single “Martians vs. Goblins” from The R.E.D. Album, there hasn’t been much discussion of future collaborations. With this growing kinship, however, perhaps fans could expect an Odd Future/Young Money mash-up in the future.
