In June Kid Cudi previewed the trailer for his horror short “Maniac” and just as promised, Mr. Rager dropped the full-length video in time to close out the Halloween festivities. The chilling 10-minute clip is directed by his actor pal Shia LaBeouf who is also responsible for the vision behind his “Marijuana” video. The mini horror film was inspired by the track “Maniac” on Cudi’s sophomore album Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager and the song’s featured rapper Cage stars alongside him in the new clip.
News of the collaboration between Cudi, Cage and LaBeouf first surfaced last November, when a photo leaked to the web, showing Cudi holding a sheet of paper that read “Maniac, Cage, Kid Cudi—Dir: Shia LaBeouf.”
When MTV News caught up with LaBeouf in June, he explained how it all came about. "[Cage] is one of my good friends. Cage, Chris Palko, and I had been trying to make a movie about him for a while," LaBeouf said. "Cudi hit [Cage] up and did a song with him. Cage sent me the song, called 'Maniac,' so initially, we started prepping this video, which is really like a short horror movie that I made that comes out on Halloween. In the interim, while we were finishing up the effects on it, [Cudi] told me he was going to Amsterdam for the Cannabis Cup."
That trip to Amsterdam resulted in the hazy clip for Cudi’s single “Marijuana,” which featured plenty of weed and snapshots of the city’s infamous Red Light District.
