Drake Calls Stevie Wonder And T.I. Most Influential

On yesterday’s (October 19) episode of “RapFix Live” with special guest Red Cafe, self-proclaimed “King Of The South” T.I. joined our own Sway on the Shade 45 “Sway In The Morning” show on Sirius XM to talk about his upcoming projects – including his latest stint as an author.

Sway and Tip chopped it up on a variety of topics but a special segment featuring Canadian star Drake revealed that the southern rap mainstay and one of music’s living legends have left quite an impression on the Young Money artist.

During Sway and Tip’s interview, our host played back video of Drake speaking fondly of longtime R&B singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder. Mr. Wonder recently joined Drake onstage this past July at the OVO Fest in Toronto and gave the younger star more performance time than was originally allotted and imparted some wisdom on Drizzy as well to which the rapper credited to some humble self-analysis.

“There’s gotta be a reason why this man comes out to at OVO Fest and plays 35 minutes when he’s supposed to play one song,” said Drake. “There’s a reason why he even shows up there period, why he’s willing to come and share his insight with me.”

Drake continued by also lavishing T.I. with kind words saying, “He’s been like probably one of the greatest most influential people next to Tip who took the time very early in my career to sit me down and have a great conversation with me that I keep with me all the time. He [T.I.] told me some key things a couple of nights before he went to jail. Those are two guys, and I know they’re obviously different, but for me it meant a lot to me.”

Tip was equally glowing in his remarks about Drake, calling the younger rapper “phenomenal” and recalling that he told Drizzy to appreciate his time in the business – especially the fickle listening public’s changing tastes.

T.I. is now promoting his new fiction book Power & Beauty: A Love Story of Life on the Streets. Drake is gearing up for the release of his anticipated second album Take Care this coming November.
