In the tough guy arena of hip-hop music, Canadian heartthrob Drake exhibits a rare sensitivity and humility not easily expressed amongst his peers. In his songs and interviews Drizzy has often revealed that for all the bravado that exists in the game, there is still room to show a little vulnerability along with the chest thumping. In a revealing interview with Elle magazine, the Young Money star opens up about some of his romantic affairs – which include two of the biggest names in entertainment today.
Drake’s whirlwind romance with Barbadian pop princess Rihanna was the fodder of gossip blogs and celebrity publications for months and Drizzy talked about he and Ri-Ri’s brief fling and the ending of it candidly. “At the time it hurt, but she didn’t mean to. I’ll never put that on her. I was hurt because I slowly started to realize what it was,” said Drake.
He continued with, “I guess I thought it was more. That was the first girl with any fame that paid me any mind. You spend days reading about this person in magazines. All of a sudden you have this number-one song and you’re at some birthday party and there she is. And you’re just some naive kid from Toronto staying in some sh–ty-ass hotel who got invited to this party on a whim. That’s just how it happened.”
Drizzy also talked about the faux Twitter marriage between him and fellow YMCMB compatriot Nicki Minaj, and dropped a bit of a bombshell.
“I don’t know if we were really pretending. I’d marry Nicki. I think Nicki would be one of the only people that would understand me at the end of all of this and be able to love me,” said Drake about Young Money’s first lady.
Drake also expressed his feelings about his loneliness while on the road, although the charming and handsome artist could surely find love at a moment’s notice. “When you’re on the road and moving city to city, when someone isn’t there at the end of the night, you feel empty.”
Drake’s sophomore album Take Care has been pushed back to November.
