Not even motherhood can slow down hardworking R&B diva Beyoncé.
The Houston born mother-to-be just dropped a video for her third single from her album 4 in “Countdown” last Thursday (October 6) – and she isn’t stopping there. Beyoncé is continuing the video roll out for her fourth studio album by dropping a brief clip for the feel-good jam “Love On Top” Sunday (October 9).
The video begins with a clever homage to boy band pioneers New Edition and their 80s smash “If It Isn’t Love” with Bey and her dancers mimicking the rehearsal segment of the vaunted R&B group’s video for the song. Decked out in a captain’s hat and an all-black bodysuit, Beyoncé took a different outfit approach than her more subdued live performance of the song at the MTV Video Music Awards in August. The one minute and twenty two second teaser ends just as Beyoncé gets through the song’s first verse and chorus. Essence magazine reported online that the video will see a debut next week although no confirmation has come from Beyoncé’s camp.
Fans on Twitter chimed in on the clip as it makes its rounds throughout the Web and blogosphere. “I love the New Edition tribute/re-enactment. Beyoncé has made me a fan,” said a converted @BlkGrlsDontDate who acknowledged Beyoncé’s nod. User @serenabirdee added, “The Love On Top video teaser is just beautiful.”
A critical @onlychyld said, “I love "love on top" and I love NE. I hate the video. I'm convinced Bey just makes what interests her and doesn't care if it resonates.” Still, the growing sentiment behind Beyoncé’s new clip is supportive. “I just watched the official teaser video of love on top i think its going to be a good video :),” said fan @iLoveMusic1800.
In other big news for the singer, she and husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child in February as told to Australia’s Channel 7 Sunday Night Show by way of AOL last night.
