When longtime rapper and rising business mogul Jay-Z to added the title author to his growing list of accomplishments, fans snatched up his debut book Decoded in droves – which helped to make the part biography and lyrics cheat sheet a bestseller on the New York Times list.
Penned alongside Hip Hop writer and editor dream hampton, Jay’s book offered fans access to the inner workings and early life of the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn native. The veteran rapper's breakdown of some of his most well-known works within the book was a revealing inside look into what inspired Jay’s lyrics and their double meanings. After releasing the hardcover version of the tome last November, Decoded is slated for a slight upgrade at the top of next month.
The paperback version of Decoded will hit stands on November 1 with some expansions. The update will feature seven new illustrations and three new decoded songs – “Young Gz” alongside side the late Notorious B.I.G., the metaphor-laden “I Know” and “Lost One” –according to reps, this track was selected by fans to be decoded by a show of votes.
The book also has an added chapter, where Jay-Z looks back on the praise the book has gained and also how he went about crafting his book along with choosing songs from his catalog for decoding. Heaped with heavy praise from critics and fans alike, it appears Jay-Z has a purpose beyond high book sales. “I want readers to see the craft and learn the context—and I want them to still be able to feel the magic, and enjoy the show,” said Jay-Z in an excerpt from the new afterword in Decoded.
