Jay-Z has reigned as one of the most successful rap artists of all time, using his fame and business savvy to create lucrative revenue streams outside of hip-hop. From clothing companies, record labels and other innovative pathways, the 41-year-old Brooklyn native has come a long way from his former past dealings as a street hustler.
Jay-Z was a guest on My Fox New York morning program “Good Day New York” to talk about his latest venue venture, with the announcement that current NBA team New Jersey Nets will be renamed to reflect the name of Jay-Z’s hometown borough. But that wasn’t the only big news of the day for the mogul and husband of superstar entertainer Beyoncé.
“We've decided that the final name would be the Brooklyn Nets,” said a smiling and dapper Jay-Z, a part owner of the NBA squad. “I’m giddy right now.” Jay-Z announced that the Barclays Center, the arena that will house the Nets, will double as an entertainment and performance venue – opening next fall with a series of as-yet-unnamed concerts and the like.
Naturally, the Fox reporter pressed the dad-to-be about his impending fatherhood, attempting to get Jay-Z to open up about his wife’s expectancy and asking if the power couple is having a boy or girl.
“No, I’m not nervous. Everything’s great,” said an elusive and vague Jay-Z. Jay also revealed that he and Beyoncé know what they’re having.
“We do [know the sex], but I’m not gonna say, of course.”
