The self-proclaimed “King Of The South” T.I. is positioning himself to reclaim his coveted title while completing his time obligations tied to his most recent prison stint according to longtime collaborator and Grand Hustle artist DJ Drama.
In a discussion with Power 105 personality DJ Clue, Drama spoke about T.I. and his renewed studio grind – and also dropped news that Tip will be free of his halfway house duties and possibly releasing new material by next week.
"Tip just came home. I was in the studio with him," Drama said to DJ Clue. "He's actually about to drop a new song next week. He’s in a halfway house but when you're in a halfway house you can still get to work. So he's been in the studio during work time and he's banging out. Actually [his time in the halfway house] ends next week. So he'll be in the streets by the BET Hip-Hop Awards."
T.I. will officially be released from a halfway house on September 29, the day prior to the BET Hip-Hop Awards. In a later interview with xxlmag.com Dram told the website the T.I. single features fellow Southern artist Big K.R.I.T. and will drop on Monday.
“The record that [T.I.’s] dropping next week features Big K.R.I.T. on it,” Drama revealed to XXL. “K.R.I.T. produced it.”
While no official word from the Grand Hustle camp suggests that T.I. will attend the upcoming BET Hip Hop Awards show this coming October, DJ Drama will most certainly rep his squad as a nominee in the event under the category for DJ Of The Year. Drama will be going up against fellow disc jocks DJ Khaled, DJ Enuff, DJ Envy and DJ Prostyle.
T.I.’s last studio album was 2010’s No Mercy. Tip’s last official mixtape alongside DJ Drama and DJ MLK F--k A Mixtape was released ahead of the LP.
