Rappers aren’t the only ones who should be watching the throne. On October 1, during Paris Fashion Week Kanye West will be unveiling his S/S 12 Women’s wear collection after fashion heavy hitters Jean Paul Gaultier and Loewe put their lines on display.
Australian Harper’s Bazaar broke the news earlier this week. Kanye, who is known for his daring fashion moves including Michael Jackson- inspired leather jackets, gypsy pants, and his famous shutter shades, has been an A-list guest at many notable fashion shows over the past few years. He has an extensive list of involvement in the fashion world including designing tennis shoes for Louis Vuitton, interning at Fendi, and designing a collection of scarves.
The S/S 12 collaboration with British fashion designer Louise Goldin, is predicted to be more of a hit then Yeezy’s 2008 urban street wear label Pastelle, which never reached stores.
Professor Louise Wilson, fashion director at Central Saint Martins and a noted tutor of Goldin’s confirmed Kanye’s plans. "I can confirm that Kanye has been to visit me twice at Saint Martins and we have briefly discussed this collaboration," she said “His visit was in part to employ interns for his label, and it's important to mention that he's supported our fashion school and made an immediate donation to Saint Martins, which perhaps further demonstrates his passion for the industry.” She said to The Guardian.
Goldin also urges the nay-sayers to not be fooled into thinking that Kanye will merely be the face of this fashion line, she says “There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, I don't believe this will be the case – he researches thoroughly and is hands on and committed to his work.”
