Dubbed the “cornerstone of Hip Hop” by longtime MTV News correspondent and show host Sway Calloway, “RapFix Live” will celebrate its one year anniversary on September 14. As one of the best live Hip Hop-based talk shows around, “RapFix Live” has not only featured some of rap’s biggest stars and exclusive, explosive freestyles, but also has broken major news stories and from the comfy confines of its infamous red couch. Here’s a look back at some of the top moments of “RapFix Live”:
Wiz Khalifa, now one of the most popular rappers around, was still thought to be signed to Pittsburgh indie label Rostrum Records when he graced the couch and shocked Sway and the world by revealing he’d been signed by major player Atlantic Records. He also presented his now anthemic single “Black and Yellow” to the masses. G-Unit soldier Lloyd Banks also turned heads when he revealed he was moving on to EMI after spending much of his career with Interscope under the G-Unit umbrella. Dipset solider Juelz Santana gave one of the more entertaining and unbridled interviews on the show. The highlight of ’Elz interview was a playback of a previous episode with the Diplomats who were covering for Juelz’ absence during their visit to RapFix.
Brooklyn rap legend Lil’ Kim and her appearance on “RapFix Live” was one of the highest viewed and talked about episodes; with the Queen Bee addressing her ongoing feud with current female rap ruler Nicki Minaj. The recently incarcerated Ja Rule also stopped by and candidly shared his legal issues with Sway. The aforementioned Wiz Khalifa brought his model girlfriend Amber Rose with him on his second appearance–where they shared an onscreen smooch. Amber gushed over her beau as Wiz coolly took it all in.
Sway’s interview with Bad Meets Evil cohorts Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 was another fantastic spot where the Detroit rap titans hashed out some minor details about who is the “bad” and “evil” of the pair. West Coast rep The Game also sat with Sway this summer ahead of releasing his The R.E.D. album LP and revealed some background on his record, including working with Dr. Dre.
It isn’t always serious journalism on “RapFix Live” as Pittsburgh spitter and Fab 5 alum Mac Miller gifted Sway on air with a Pittsburgh Steelers spa package on one episode. The jokes continued on the same show with fellow Fab 5 Alum Future showcasing some of his lady friends to Sway and Mac Miller live on camera during a studio interview. Other big moments such as Diddy dialing in internationally and a visit from former G.O.O.D. Music artist Consequence are just some of the many amazing moments shown on “RapFix Live.”
