The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards were another dazzling affair in the long history of the event, and while over the years the VMAs have been typically packed full of surprises, not even the most prophetic could have guessed that power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé would reveal they were expecting their first child.
A radiant Beyoncé cradled her baby bump for the cameras during the VMA Pre-Show and she took things a step further when, after performing “Love On Top” on the VMA stage, she proudly revealed her belly to the audience with an approving Jay-Z looking on. Many stars in the audience stood and clapped for the pair. And now it appears that Jay and B’s little one already has a famous godmother-in-waiting.
The Boombox caught up with Young Money starlet Nicki Minaj and Roc Nation signee and Jay-Z protégé J. Cole, who both excitedly commented on the latest addition to the Carter/Knowles family. “My baby, Beyoncé! I will be the godmother,” said a pumped Nicki, who stepped up front to volunteer her position.
North Carolina native J. Cole also chimed in.
“I feel like the whole world feels like, 'We having a baby,' " Cole said. "How wild is that? You can't help but smile, it's incredible. It's crazy. The way they told the world was so gangsta and it's so not even their style, which made it even better. They're so not flashy with their news but I feel like it's cool that they shared that with the world. They knew that it was important news for the world, to us, the fans,” Cole added.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé have been married since April 2008. No due date for their baby has been publicly announced.
