As MTV gears up for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards airing on Sunday, August 28, show opener Lady Gaga, British songbird Adele, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars and down south rap megastar Lil Wayne will undoubtedly thrill fans with their live performances. Ahead of the actual show beginning at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the longstanding tradition of the VMA Pre-Show continues on and will feature a first look at one of Hip Hop’s fastest rising stars in Nicki Minaj and her new video “Fly.”
After fellow collaborator Rihanna tweeted a teaser pic of the video shoot for “Fly” back in January, fans were anticipating the video although the Sanaa Hamri-directed clip for “Super Bass” dropped ahead of it. Hamri returns again to direct “Fly” which will get a special preview during the VMA Pre-Show – adding on to a big night for Nicki Minaj who has been nominated for three 2011 VMA awards including Best Rap Video for “Super Bass.”
Hosted by bubbly actress and singer Selena Gomez, the VMA Pre-Show will begin at 8 p.m. ET/PT where the Emmy Award-winning star will report on the happenings of the VMAs directly from the black carpet and catching up with fellow stars as they approach the venue. MTV News correspondents Sway Calloway, Jim Cantiello and James Montgomery will lend their journalistic expertise to Gomez as the star-studded event unfolds. Joining Gomez is pop band Cobra Starship who will be rocking their dance hit “You Make Me Feel” featuring Sabi.
The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year’s highlights and vote for Best New Artist at VMA.MTV.com.
