Amil Seeks 'Closure' From Jay-Z, Voices Support For Nicki Minaj

As the lone female voice of the Roc-A-Fella Records regime back in 2000, Amil’s distinctive hushed rap flow stood out amongst the throng of her male peers. Dropping her only album and debut A.M.I.L. (All Money Is Legal), Amil faded out of the spotlight although she made a few brief appearances in the 2000s although she’s yet to do any significant amount of tunes. While Amil has not announced a full time comeback to the music industry, she has been keeping herself busy during her rap absence.

In an exclusive interview with VIBE, the 32-year-old mother of three spoke fondly of her former mentor Jay-Z and debunked her use of Twitter, as an account using her name and likeness has surfaced on the social media network. Amil also gave Young Money starlet Nicki Minaj a few supportive words and let the magazine in on her newest moves.

“I haven't spoken to Jay in years but I really wish I could talk to him because that would just really bring closure to me. But he knows I love him," Amil said. "People think there was bad blood between us, but there never was any bad blood. Things happen and I wasn't ready for where my career was going at that time. It was really overwhelming.”

Amil also addressed the fake Twitter account as well. “I've never had a Twitter or Facebook account. They're just not for me," she explains. "Sometimes things like this surprise me because I haven't been in the spotlight in awhile, but when I come up it always seems to be something negative.”

Amil showed some love and a bit of sympathy for her fellow rap peer, relating to the pressures of fame as a female rapper. “I got mad respect and love for Nicki. She's doing it really big and that's odd for a female. It's really hard for a female rapper... out of every female entertainer, they got it the worst.”

Amil also told VIBE she is at work on a new urban fiction novel complete with a soundtrack and a new mixtape.
