As the first female artist signed to Florida rapper Plies and his stepbrother’s label Big Gates Records imprint, rapper Lady first made noise with an eye-popping video for her single “Yankin’” taken from her 2010 mixtape Bitch From Around The Way 2. She followed up with the equally raunchy “Twerk” in where the artist unashamedly promotes her sexy image to the hilt. Ahead of her upcoming fourth mixtape Bonafide Bitch with DJ Rell, the rapper has been promoting her latest track “Casey Anthony” which will be featured on her next release.
Lady posted the track yesterday (July 17) on her website and the track has been making its rounds on the Web as well. Named after Casey Anthony, the young mother who was indicted on charges of murdering her 3-year daughter Caylee in 2008, Anthony’s case received massive media attention ahead of her July 5 acquittal this year of all charges. No stranger to being controversial herself, Lady’s aggressive track has little to do with the case itself with the title serving as nothing more as an attention-grabbing song title.
To Lady’s credit, the track’s motivational “keep your head up” shout out to the imprisoned and criticism supporting wrongly incarcerated inmates belies the sensational use of Casey Anthony’s name in the song’s title. Lady also manages to display a degree of depth as she decries the use of capital punishment as a means of justice.
Plies, proud of his new artist, tweeted earlier today in support of Lady. “No other Female MC's Touchin dese kinds of issues,” tweeted the rapper.
