Veteran Queens rapper and former Kanye West ally Consequence has long parted ways with the G.O.O.D. Music squad, evidenced greatly by his appearance on “RapFix Live” back in May in where Cons opened up about his split with ‘Ye and even revealed some issues between he and his cousin Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest.
In front of his upcoming mixtape M.O.D. 3 (Movies On Demand 3), Consequence has released a new track produced by his former boss “On My Own” – and the Kid Cudi-assisted track is an actual beat from Kanye himself. The song has buzzed a bit over the weekend with revelatory lyrics seemingly aimed at Kanye West. Fans across the Web have been checking the record as well, offering a bevy of comments.
“[S]ong grew on me a lot. Nice beat from Kanye,” tweeted fan @xion_one. “Everything was good in this track. Beat, consequence, and Kid Cudi doing what he does best,” said another fan. User @AdanBean followed with, “[T]hought the song was pretty dope. Though the irony was almost scripted. A Kanye West produced track called “On My Own”???”
Fans continued with the positive comments about the track with a supporter chiming in with, “Pretty cool. And I usually don’t really like Cons. This would be a great record for an album.”
Cons didn’t win everyone over, however.
“Kanye produces your song, Kid Cudi provides the hook, you didn’t do sh– on your own Consequence,” said fan A.P. “Cons is a really good writer, but his delivery is so-so! He would do much better in a group or with a partner in rhyme,” offered fan Big.
In a recent Billboard interview, Consequence goes into even deeper detail about his time at G.O.O.D. Music and even reveals that beyond writing songs with Kanye, he’s also worked with Beyoncé on “Party” – also produced by ‘Ye.
