Atlanta rapper Future has been buzzing down south for quite a while with the help of some of the ATL’s best known DJs backing his steadily growing movement. Gaining notoriety for providing the hook and allegedly writing Yung Chris’ smash hit “Racks,” Future has stepped on the scene as an act to check for after dropping his Dirty Sprite mixtape at the top of the year then following up with the True Story mixtape last month.
Future is attempting another splash with a new track “Tony Montana” featuring some bars from Young Money superstar Drake – and the song has become a global trending topic on Twitter as well.
Lifted off the upcoming mixtape from Xclusives Zone and DJ Esco Freshly Baked, “Tony Montana” employs an eerie Lex Luger track with Future crafting his rhymes that were apparently inspired by the cult classic film Scarface and the film’s title character. Future opens up with the first verse with Drake following up with an aggressive verse – a change from the Canadian’s R&B-tinged output of late.
After Future took to his Twitter account earlier today (July 6) to announce the song’s release, fans have chimed in with a few thoughts.
“[Yeah] Drake Put on on the Tony Montana Verse, he held his city down! thats a Major Look for the homie Future,” tweeted satisfied fan @KaliSupaFlyy. “Drake blessed future str8 up,” added @HandSoM3andSOM3.
A few fans were less than impressed with the collaboration however.
“Future ft. Drake - #TonyMontana Gotta be the DUMBEST FACK'n SONG I've EVER HEARD! Why Drake WHY!!!! SmH,” said a disappointed @J2da_T. “Who likes this new Future song featuring Drake? Mention me, so I can unfollow you for it,” threatened @thatsDaniforyou.
Amongst the divide on Twitter over the song, one lone voice simply asked, “Why yall so mad about Drake rappin on a Future song? Think about it, it was a business move for Future.”
