CyHi Explains G.O.O.D. Music Deal With Def Jam

Wednesday’s (June 29) episode of RapFix Live featuring G.O.O.D. Music artists CyHi The Prynce and D’Banj was more of the consistently fresh content viewers have come to expect from Sway and the RapFix Live team.

As one of the most thorough interviewers in the game, Sway got CyHi to open up about his previous label situation which revealed that the Atlanta rhyme slinger is no mere rookie – much like D’Banj who was also signed previously and a known star in his native Nigeria. Although the news of G.O.O.D. Music signing a deal with Island Def Jam was certainly huge, it was actually a full circle homecoming of sorts for CyHi.

After Sway artfully weaved in CyHi’s connection to Def Jam as a result of an earlier deal he had with Akon’s Konvict Music team, Cy confirmed Sway’s inquiry and gave a little backstory on how he came to be a part of the famous label. “I was actually signed [to the label] through a group,” shared CyHi. “I was on Jazze Pha’s label; at first and I got my first deal with Shakir [Stewart], rest in peace. When I went solo, I came back to revisited the situation due to my relationship with L.A. Reid.”

CyHi went on to add, “We just put that together then ‘Ye came in on the Hip Hop side so they doing their 50/50 with Konvict and G.O.O.D. Music. So I been at Def Jam all my life, it’s just the big heads putting it all together. But by G.O.O.D. Music actually getting their label deal there and I’m already there, it just solidifies me more to a possibility of an album coming real soon.”
