Lupe Fiasco, Trey Songz Perform At 2011 MTV Movie Awards

They may not be Hollywood stars yet but musical acts Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz delivered a winning performance at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards tonight (June 5) at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

At tonight’s award show hosted by comedian and Saturday Night Live cast member Jason Sudeikis, Chicago’s Lupe Fiasco performed alongside Virginia’s own Trey Songz for a duet performance of the rapper’s latest single “Out Of My Head” off of his third studio record Lasers.

Trey Songz, decked in stylish white shirt and jacket and fashionable jeans, appeared from an elevated platform below the stage while Lupe appeared from the side of the stage adorned in a black leather jack, jeans and shirt. Trey’s appearance with Lupe was a bit brief as Lupe launched directly into the first single from the Lasers album “The Show Goes On.”

Rocking out with a full band and backup singer, Lupe thrilled the crowd and gave an energetic performance while fans reached up towards the rapper as he bounced about the stage with enthusiasm – with approving applause coming from the attendees at the end of his short set.

Fans on Twitter were mostly approving of Lupe's performance, offering congratulatory praise for the most part. "Its crazy seein lupe fiasco performin on mtv and all!!i remember when I went to a concert when he opened for chris brown years ago!!respect!" said user ForeverLaughin1.

User Travis_Gorden added, "do you see this Lupe Fiasco performance on MTV?! pretty great." A less enthused user grovejosh quipped critically, "Lupe fiasco on mtv music awards. Way to ruin your own song."

In another live performance at the Gibson, actor and zany funnyman Jim Carrey introduced alternative rockers the Foo Fighters earlier in the night in his usual humorous fashion with an eye-catching suit that doubled as a green screen – while the band subsequently delivered on their earlier promise of “bringing it hard” in their performance of their newest single “Walk.”
