With fans eagerly anticipating the release of Lil Wayne’s ninth studio album Tha Carter IV, a recently leaked audio snippet of a track that may make the final cut has surfaced on the Web – although the lyrics are nearly inaudible and just about four bars long.
Produced by Swizz Beatz, “Anne” was reported earlier today by website Tale Tela to have been a track Swizz submitted to Eminem for his Relapse album as a sequel to Em’s popular single “Stan” from The Marshall Mathers LP. With Em rejecting the track, Swizz was said in a report by the website Rap Up to have retrieved the track for his star-studded upcoming album Haute Living. Rap Up went on to say that Swizz gave Wayne the “Anne” track in exchange for Weezy’s appearance on Swizz’s “Rock ‘N’ Roll” single featuring the Young Money honcho and his current tour mate Travis Barker along with rocker Lenny Kravitz.
A moody and somber affair, the track begins with haunting and piercing female vocals as the music builds step by step. When the drums and sparse piano playing hit, Wayne’s verse is said in a hushed and almost pained fashion, similar in vein to how Eminem’s performance on “Stan” was delivered. “Dear Anne, My number one fan/I write with the life from the rhymes on my nightstand/My pen in my right hand and it's also my mic hand, codeine in a Sprite can/Ink with the white paint, I’m thinking...” – the snippet ending abruptly as Wayne was just getting started.
With Swizz recently unveiling his Haute Living project to a private listening party last week in Los Angeles, the project is slated for a late summer release. Lil Wayne is currently nearing the end of his "I Am Still Music" tour and will release Tha Carter IV on June 21.
