Perhaps Lil Wayne should retitle his Tha Carter IV album Graduation.
At least, that’s what the cover of his ninth–studio album Tha Carter IV would suggest. The rapper and head of Young Money Records used the same concept as the cover of 2008’s Tha Carter III to make his cover for Tha Carter IV. Like Tha Carter III, Tha Carter IV will feature a childhood photo of Wayne with his facial tattoos photoshopped upon his baby face.
Wayne opted for a noticeably more grown image from his childhood this time around. Tha Carter III’s album art featured a toddler Lil Wayne in a tiny suit with the same facial tats Wayne had in 2008 plus hand tattoos and a pinky ring. Tha Carter IV has Wayne’s facial ink updated (read: more tattoos) with Wayne as a child in a green cap and gown with a bowtie.
The cover could be perceived as Wayne graduating to a new level of stardom. However, some fans aren’t feeling the art.
“Wow the cover of Lil Wayne's the Carter IV has to be a joke,” tweets @mflovee. “How can one take that album seriously?” “LMAO! What was Wayne thinking?” @carpe_DMH adds. Some aren’t so mad at the artistic choices as @CountyGrind says, “Enraptured by Lil Wayne's adorable Tha Carter IV cover”. Others have referred to the cover as “amazing”. That can go either way.
Wayne’s Tha Carter IV is slated for a June release, pushed back from it's May 16th date as previously reported. In the meantime, fans can catch the graduate Weezy on one of the remaining string of dates on his “I Am Music II” tour.
