Beyonce Crafts Another Female Anthem, Fans React

By Kathy Iandoli

Beyonce has released a new single, and in true Queen Bey fashion, it has fans going crazy.

The song, “Girls (Who Run the World)” is a girl-power charged anthem, presumably on Beyonce’s untitled fourth studio album arriving sometime this year. It includes stuttering drums with Bey chanting, “Who run the world? Girls! Who run this mutha--?” With typical mentions of dressing fly at the clubs and having high self-esteem, it’s a track to be expected from the crossover superstar.

Fans are already allowing the song to work its magic. “WHO RUN THE WORLD? GIRLS!” tweets @and_matias. “*Jumps On The Bed & Yells* WHO RUN THE WORLD?! GIRLS!” adds @FiercePrinceJ. “Beyoncé Is Back! Thank God!”

“Girls” borrows a sample from the track “Pon de Floor” by electro-everything producer Diplo and fellow beatsmith Switch. Rumors swelled early on that Beyonce would be utilizing Diplo’s MPC for this upcoming project. While this is merely a sample, it may indicate the shape of things to come for Beyonce’s reinvention of sound. Fans are already enoying the change. “Loving the beat on this new track @beyonce just did ‘Girls (Who Run The World)’” tweets @sonjac_williams.

Throughout the tenure of Beyonce’s career – both as a solo artist and the frontwoman for Destiny’s Child – she has crafted songs geared toward the empowerment of women. Her most recent prior to “Girls (Who Run the World)” was the atomic “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” that not only had women demanding matrimony, but also reinspired the world to dance like one of Bob Fosse’s girls. Prior to “Single Ladies,” Beyonce has had hits like “Irreplaceable,” “Me, Myself & I,” as well as “Survivor” and “Independent Women."

While the message on “Girls (Who Run the World)” rings clearly, there is an even bigger message. Beyonce has returned. As fan @ItsAngiieBee puts it, “I just listened to Beyonce - Girls (Who Run The World) and all I have to say is...THE QUEEN BEY IS BACK BITCHESSSSS!”
