Move over Charlie Sheen, Nicki Minaj is definitely winning right now.
After a few weeks of rumors – and also quotes from the rapper herself – that Young Money starlet Nicki Minaj that would be a possible addition to pop singer Britney Spears’ promotional tour for her latest album Femme Fatale, the pairing was finally confirmed via press release early this morning.
Britney and Nicki will hit the road of their 26 city trek beginning June 16 in Sacramento, California before wrapping up in Toronto, Canada on August 13 and the tour gleefully boasts an all-female lineup. Joining the superstar headliners as the opening acts will be Jessie and the Toy Boys with Nervo rounding out the show’s girl power roster.
With her seventh studio album, Britney Spears made a triumphant return to music after a three year layoff. The combination of Spears with the red-hot Pink Friday star has thrown many fans into a frenzy along with some bristling criticism from the public. Twitter fans chimed in about the pairing in droves today.
“I think its a sensible combination. Both have a large following of young women that enjoy pop music & the sense of empowerment and sexuality that the music conveys,” said @SweetCBeauty.
@CraigSJenkins succinctly added, “I think Minaj is pop enough at this point in her career to mesh with Spears' fanbase.”
However, there were many on Twitter who were not as approving of the pairing and really went to town with their comments.
"[B]ad move for nicki. What does she have to gain from it?" asked @ThriceGreat. Another Twitter commenter expressed a rather unique perspective. “The Britney Spears & Nicky Minaj tour should be called ‘The reason why little girls women have issues with Body image,’" said @Brandale2221.
Most fans are delighted by the announcement however, most clearly articulated in the following tweet: "Holy f--k still can't breathe. I can't get over the fact that Nicki Minaj is touring with Britney Spears. I. CANNOT. F---ING. WAIT," said fan @BieberISLOUD.
Nicki Minaj is currently on the "I Am Still Music" tour with her boss Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and rocker Travis Barker. The tour ends on May 1 at New Jersey’s Bamboozle music festival.
