Two Men Charged With DJ Megatron Murder, Fans React

An arrest has been made in the murder case of Staten Island native and BET “106 & Park” DJ Corey "Megatron" McGriff. Two men were charged yesterday (April 6) with the March 27 shooting and killing of DJ Megatron, who was laid to rest this past Tuesday (April 5).

According to media reports, 21-year old William Williams and 20-year old Richard Cromwell were charged with second degree murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property. The reports swirling about in the media point to the two men shooting McGriff as he was walking to a store near his home in a botched robbery attempt gone afoul.

The murderers were nabbed due to an anonymous Crimestoppers tip which led to the arrest of Williams. An unknown witness reportedly came forward and identified Cromwell as the shooter. Both men later confessed to their role in the crime to Staten Island prosecuting officials.

Fans on Twitter expressed disappointment and bittersweet relief in the circumstance surrounding DJ Megatron’s unfortunate slaying. "Wtf is the world coming too Smh senseless crimes R.I.P Dj Megatron," tweeted @ComiQPhreSh. "[T]hank God they've made an arrest in the murder of DJ Megatron! :) #RIP," said @ZhakerraVannece.

Commenters on NBC New York also expressed elation that that case was solved and the murderers brought to justice. "THNX GOD! NOW HIS FAMILY CAN FIND PEACE....AMEN," shared one commenter. Another added, "They should have already been behind bars before it lead to his murder!" – based on the fact that the two men had long rap sheets prior to this latest arrest.

Corey McGriff, 32, was a known party promoter in Staten Island, learning the ins and outs of the business as his hustle and work ethic landed him an internship at the famed Hot 97 radio station. McGriff rose in the ranks, eventually landing a coveted sidekick role alongside popular Hot 97 personality Fatman Scoop on air as well. In recent times, DJ Megatron was a fixture on the BET daily evening music program "106 & Park" and was beloved for his bombastic personality and ability to excite the studio audience.
