Up and coming Brooklyn rapper Lucky Don has a few friends in high places.
The former prison mate of Maino called on fellow BK comrade and The Bronx’s 2011 "XXL Freshmen" Fred Da Godson to hop on the remix for his recently released single “Let’s Go” and MTV News snagged some behind the scenes photos and video from the shoot.
Shot on location in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, MTV News got with Maino and Fred as they relaxed between shooting, with both artists showing a great deal of support for Lucky Don. Maino in particular had the most to say about his longtime friend. “It’s important for real artists to support each other, especially now,” said Maino. “I’m on the front line making it happen. We keep it rocking. This is why I’m here.”
Maino also revealed on the set that he’s been working with some of New York’s heavy hitters such as Swizz Beats, Jim Jones, Jadakiss and Joell Ortiz in a bid to show some unification in the city. “I think the perception to people outside of New York is that we don’t rock with each other,” added Maino.
Another Brooklyn stalwart, Memphis Bleek, was also on the set to throw some support behind his friends Lucky Don and Maino. The former Jay-Z sidekick hasn’t been idle as he’s set to drop a new mixtape in a month and developing his new Kush Gang movement while also touring around the world. Bleek is also set to drop an upcoming film that he’s produced titled “Five Boroughs” and intends to premiere the release at the Tribeca Film festival later this month.
