While the champions of audio and visual nihilism OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) may be the darlings of the press, brash lyrics from the Wolf Gang’s de facto leader may have the crew of talented teens embroiled in a beef with one of rap’s biggest stars.
On Tyler The Creator’s single “YONKERS” from his upcoming album GOBLIN, the 19-year old prodigy takes a not so playful jab at southern rapper B.o.B. and singer Bruno Mars, who both collaborated on the smash hit “Nothing On You.” The line “I’ll crash that f--kin’ airplane that f----t n--ga B.o.B. is in” in Tyler’s track reportedly grabbed B.o.B.’s attention, who released a song supposedly aimed as an Odd Future diss titled “No Future.”
While he never directly calls out Odd Future by name, the many vague references to “rookies” and “beginners” – not to mention the ending line “you keep “f---ing with me, you ain’t go have no future” – have been suggested by fans and the blogosphere that B.o.B. was indeed dissing Odd Future. The bouncy track and aggressive rhyming may sound unfamiliar to fans of B.o.B.’s more known pop offerings, but the East Atlanta native has had a long underground mixtape history as part of the Grand Hustle Records roster.
Fans have been pretty vocal on Twitter and the blogs about the song as many are wondering what B.o.B. accomplished by going after relative news kids on the block while his career is going strong. One commenter on XXL said, “F--k Odd Future. Tyler had no right dissing B.o.B. Bobby Ray all the way!” while another added, “This is not hot. I like both O.F and B.O.B, but O.F is more interesting and very creative. Cant wait for a response, should be interesting!”
Twitter exploded once the news hit and it was again a mixed bag of responses. “[T]his new B.o.B. is an Odd Future diss, I'm lovin' this aggressive Bobby Ray,” tweeted @TheInfaMusic. Twitter user @phreshtudef added, “B.O.B went IN on the Odd Future diss.” Still, most fans found the track underwhelming. “B.O.B vs Odd Future ... B.O.B should have done some research and went harder... his flow was cool but kinda generic punches,” said @THEChrisKessell.
Tyler, a very active Twitter user, responded to the track favorably. “Whoa. I Don’t Think The ‘No Future’ Song Is Even A Diss. But, Ive Never Heard Him Spit Like That. Took Me By Surprise, Cus Its Tight,” said the Wolf Gang jokester.
