It seems like everybody wants to get a piece of Nicki Minaj, including British music executive and former judge of the hit show "American Idol" Simon Cowell.
Nicki Minaj reportedly has been pegged by Cowell to be one of the judges for his next venture, the American version of his wildly popular British talent show The X Factor on the FOX Broadcasting network. Already snagging former Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Simon is setting his sights on getting the Young Money diva on board with the upcoming show. The question remains then, would Nicki Minaj walk away from her young – and successful – music career?
A source told the New York Post that Nicki and Simon had a meeting some weeks ago in Los Angeles to discuss the possibility of the starlet joining the show. The source for the Post confirmed Simon’s affinity for Nicki in a few quotes. “Simon thinks Nicki is fantastic. She's sassy, she looks great and she has bags of personality, “said the source. The source also added, “This isn't a done deal yet, but Nicki would be great for the show. She fits the ideal that 'X Factor' will be exciting, vibrant and different. And the show would also be great for her career.”
Other names being tossed about include former Sony Music exec Tommy Mottola and Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger. However, Simon could claim automatic success if he pulls off the coup of getting Nicki Minaj to put down the microphone this fall to join the show.
Fans on the Internet weighed in on this potential move, and most of the comments shared the same bent. One commenter on Rap Radar said, “So she’s gonna skip the years of stardom and go straight to has-been status?! smh.”
Twitter was equally abuzz with the news, with fans showing support of the speculated move. “[N]ow this would make me watch the x-factor,” tweeted one fan. Another user pondered, “Could she? Yes! Should she? Hmmmm…”
The "X Factor" show is slated to begin this fall with auditions starting this coming Sunday (March 27).
