Fans React To Raekwon's 'Molasses'

Wu-Tang Clan master swordsman Raekwon is prepping for the release of his upcoming album Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang and an exclusive leaked track Rae personally gave to Miss Info features the rap veteran alongside Rick Ross and long-time collaborator Ghostface Killah.

For the song “Molasses,” newcomer producer and No I.D. protégé Xtreme provides a track reminiscent of the sound Wu fans should be familiar with. Dusty soul samples and gritty drums provide the right backdrop for the serviceable rhymes from the Chef, Rawse and Tony Starks. Raekwon starts the track and he sounds right at home over the banger from Xtreme.

Ross follows up with his verse after and Rae revealed to Miss Info that while he isn’t “close friends” with Rawse, the Deeper Than Rap star showed expert professionalism in getting his verse to Rae in just 48 hours. The Maybach Music mogul’s verse is then followed by fellow Wu soldier Ghostface, closing out the song with all three of the rappers showing good form.

Fans on Twitter, Rap Radar and Miss Info’s comment site showed that fans approved of the song mostly although some found the track too rote.

Tweeted @mistah_skee: “@Raekwon molasses is fire bro. Wht album is tht on?”

Rap Radar commenter Donn added: “I’ve been disappointed with a few of these leaks, but this one is really dope. Rae’s flow was on point with the beat, everything just flowed. I would love this one on my iPod. When ever this hits iTunes, i’ma purchase it.”

MissInfo.TV commenter SEOULJAH was less than impressed: “SMH how will these dudes expand when all they do is recycle the past??????? this beat is not better than the original so it just ends up a watered down rehash. come on give us better”

Raekwon’s Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang LP is set for a March 8 release.
