While thousands and thousands of die-hard NBA heads descended on the downtown Los Angeles area celebrating the annual All-Star game with a number of parties and so forth one topic has remained the talk of the town: where will Denver Nuggets player Carmelo Anthony end up playing?
The latest developments from out of Hollywood where Carmelo and all of his potential suitors have been for the past weekend reported that “Melo Drama” is nearing a close after the New York native met with Madison Square Garden honcho James Dolan on Thursday as well Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and minority owner Jay-Z for a 40-minute sitdown yesterday evening. The Nets face to face meeting comes after tireless months of pursuing Anthony, not to mention Prokhorov’s stern declaration that his team was ending the wild goose chase for Anthony that had played out as a soap opera reminiscent of LeBron James’ free agency last summer.
Carmelo’s reluctancy to agree to a deal with the Nets following the brass’ hard sell has led many to believe that Amare Stoudemire may have some help on the way. News of a potential Melo deal for the Knicks has sparked much conversation from rappers to NBA executives.
“Knick fans, how yall feel about Gallo, Felton, Chandler, Curry’s contract & a pick 4 Melo & Billups ? I’m on the fence so far…” Joe Budden tweeted over the weekend. “I’m not mad at Billups as a rental, Chandler was leaving anyway, but DAMN that seems like a lot.. Melo & Stat is a GREAT foundation tho.”
Last night MTV caught up with New York Knicks legend and current executive Allan Houston who was on his way to Jay-Z’s and LeBron James’ annual “2 Kings” festivities. While Houston didn’t confirm nor deny a trade was in place he did say the journey to landing Carmelo Anthony reminds him of the good ole days when he played alongside Knicks greats such as Patrick Ewing coming so close to winning an NBA championship, something that would no longer be a thing of the past if ’Melo is indeed traded to the Knicks.
“To me that’s a blessing to be involved because I was there when we were trying to get to this point and to be involved we have a chance to do it again is exciting for me” said Houston referring to the Knicks reign of terror in the late ‘90’s. “I honestly think our owners doing a good job, I think Donnie Walsh is doing a great job and like I said it’s a pleasure to be involved with it.”
