Artists And Fans React To The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

While Hip-Hop made a sizeable appearance at the Grammy Awards this year, hip hop artists made an equally large presence on Twitter last night (February 13th) while the Grammys aired.

“Tonight I could have became something else...but I walked away and remain as myself,” a despondent Drake tweeted, no doubt in response to his losing the Grammy awards for both Best New Artist and Best Rap Album for Thank Me Later. Drake lost the New Artist crown to Jazzy soulstress Esperanza Spalding, as Spalding beat both Drake and Justin Bieber.

Game shared the same sentiments as Drizzy (though a little more vocal) as he tweeted, “Drake ain’t win BEST NEW ARTIST? Exactly why I'm kool on awards. (finishes rolling weed up as I turn the tv off).”

While Kanye West wasn’t running on stage, he did share his discontent with the Best New Artist win as well. “Damn... I can't find the words to explain how I feel about the best new artist award... Don't wanna say the wrong thing,” Ye tweeted.

Performance-wise, this year’s Grammys delivered and then some, with B.o.B., Janelle Monae, and Bruno Mars coming together for a high-powered medley. Their performance proved the trifecta was deserving of all of the praise they individually received this past year. “This is going to be a magic moment for Janelle,” Questlove tweeted during Janelle’s performance. Quest walked away with some more Grammys last night for the Roots / John Legend collaboration Wake Up!. Other golden performances included Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” with Rihanna and Adam Levine, which evolved into “I Need a Doctor” with Skylar Grey and a surprise appearance by Dr. Dre.

On the RapFix fan front, the Grammy praise was all for Eminem, who won for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance. Some felt he deserved more. “He was ROBBED!” Eminema commented, since Eminem lost twice to Jay-Z, as “Love the Way You Lie” was no match for “Empire State Of Mind”.

“At this point the Grammys have no creditability to me anymore. They owe Eminem big time,” RapFix user Shawn commented. “I mean this is going on ten plus years now. What the hell is really going on? Why did Jay-Z win? “His album came out 1 ½ [years] ago.”
