Will Eminem Perform At Lollapalooza?

By D.L. Chandler

The 2011 Lollapalooza music festival’s official lineup won’t be made available to the public until the month of April, but it is rumored that hip hop’s biggest act Eminem is slated to perform at the hyped event this August in Chicago’s Grant Park.

Eminem is most certain to be the headlining act if the reports hold true, especially amongst those acts selected from the genre of hip hop. Since 1991, the debut year of the festival, hip hop acts have been prominently featured in the typically Rock music dominated festival. In 1991, West Coast legend Ice-T and his Body Count rock band were the big name rap act. In 1992, Ice Cube took the main stage while Cypress Hill and House of Pain were side stage acts. Conscious rap outfit Arrested Development served as the hip hop representatives for the festival’s 1993 show.

Over the years with the festival growing in size and interest, the early days of just focusing on two stages has long since been upgraded. Last year alone, the festival boasted eleven stages with various corporate sponsors displaying their company logos and wares during performances. Grammy nominated southern rapper and singer B.O.B. made a notable performance as an early act on the festival’s Playstation stage. Other acts like J.Cole, Kidz In The Hall and others made their presence felt as well.

With Grammy nominations and performances, successful Super Bowl commercials and record sales, Eminem has eclipsed much of his previous success in the past few months alone. Coupled with a buzzed about collaborating with mentor Dr. Dre on music and a potential appearance with Dre at this year’s Grammys, 2011 has proven to be a just the beginning of an epic year for the veteran wordsmith.
