Hip-Hop music’s best selling dynamic duo, Dr. Dre and Eminem, are rumored to be the opening act of the 53rd Grammy Awards next Sunday (February 13).
Dr. Dre signed Eminem to his Aftermath Records label in 1996 and over the years they have appeared on a number of major records together including “Forgot About Dre” and “Guilty Conscience.” Keeping in line with Grammy performances being showcases for current music, the safe bet is at least one of the songs they perform will be “I Need A Doctor,” the second official single from Dr. Dre’s Detox album.
Despite leaking online a couple of weeks ago (an even rougher version appeared last year), “I Need A Doctor” made its official debut on Tuesday, February 1. The song includes two fiery verses from Em and a closing verse from Dre, and also features the vocals of singer Skylar Grey. Produced by in demand beatsmith Alex Da Kid, “I Need A Doctor” is currently the #1 single on iTunes. The song’s release also marked the relaunch of Dr. Dre’s official website.
Besides a handful of appearances including last year’s brief Eminem and Jay-Z concerts, Dr. Dre has kept a pretty low profile when it comes to performances. The lauded producer’s last album was 1999’s 2001 and the immense anticipation for the perpetually delayed follow up Detox has given the release an almost mythic quality with each passing year. All this means that an epic Grammy performance would be great promotion for Detox and foster even more anticipation for the album’s release.
Detox’s first single was “Kush,” which features Snoop Dogg and Akon. There is still no official date for the album’s release.
