B.o.B's No Genre Mixtape: Fans React

By Paul Cantor

For B.o.B, 2010 was 365 days filled with crawling out of the deep dark depths of hip-hop’s underground and into the mainstream.

Those who remember the Atlanta-bred MC — before he was Grammy-nominated, before MTV named him the #9 Hottest MC in the game, before "Nothin' On You" became a song for couples to dance to at their weddings, before "Airplanes" became a rallying cry for anyone going through some drama — know he’s a lyrical dynamo with knack for more than just catchy pop tunes. On December 7 he dropped an early Christmas gift, his latest mixtape, No Genre, to cap off his year and show he’s still hungry and vicious on the mic.

So far, fans have been nothing if not overly pleased with what B.o.B offers on the project. On Twitter, the feedback has been extremely positive.

"#np B.o.B. - No Genre (Legendary mixtape, EVERY track is iPod worthy, unprecedented in recent memory),” @The5inco tweeted.

Nods in support of that sentiment are all around.

"B.O.B No Genre mixtape is in the running for mixtape in the year now at first I thought it was J. Cole mixtape now idk," @Ericorfelix said.

@chalohusla agreed, tweeting, "B.o.B's No Genre mixtape is sincerely one of the best this year #watchers and #beastmode."

No Genre dropped on the same day as Grand Hustle CEO TI’s new album No Mercy, and coincidentally features T.I. on three songs ("Grand Hustle Kings," "Not Lost," and "Feet Don’t Fail Me Now," respectively). Some fans of both artists seem to be giving the nod to B.o.B on who has the better project.

"iFux w/ T.I. but B.o.B's No Genre [mixtape] sound better to me than T.I.'s new album No Mercy," @StatusLive tweeted.

@loudraws4 concurred, "This B.o.B No Genre mixtape makes my purchase of T.I.'s No Mercy look foolish."

Others had to give it up to B.o.B for being not just a great rapper, but a talented musician across the board.

"@bobatl new mixtape, No Genre is a must listen. B.o.B can rap, sing, and produce. This dude is a real musician," @MattBern89 wrote.

And @Mean_Joe_Green added, "B.o.B's mixtape No Genre is dope. That is one talented a-- negro!!! This n---a raps, sings, produces, plays instruments, ice skates #nsh-t."
