The 215 is definitely alive thanks to Young Chris’ latest mixtape offering, The Re-Introduction. The set puts DJ Drama and Don Cannon back together to cook up their classic Aphilliates flavoring throughout the 11-song collection. The pre-album, as the Young Gunz alum’s label head Rico Love calls is, is the first new music from the MC’s union with Division 1.
“My first passion is hip-hop and I want to give him the album that we both never had,” Rico, a noted songwriter for the likes of Usher and Beyoncé told us. “This is like me living my dream vicariously through him. And just watching the process of me looking at guys I grew up idolizing and admiring and now I’m gunning for them. I want their spot.”
Last week, the duo’s project was the Mixtape Daily “Main Pick” and we followed the guys down to Atlanta where Chris spit a few bars for us and talked about the Re-Introduction.
» “The Re-Introduction”: “That’s serious,” Chris said about the intro record. “That’s one of the first records me and Rico cut, man. He just told me, ’Go crazy on this joint.’ No hook or nothing. I just went off. Actually, we got the name of the [mixtape] from that record.
“Pardon me for this sweet interruption,” he continued, rapping. “Nah, this ain’t no re-enactment, this a reintroduction.”
» “Break a Bitch Down” (featuring Rico Love): “The music is intense,” Rico said. “We’re really excited about the rollout. It’s just raw rap and just real hit records and real good songs. Just an MC at his finest.”
