The Texas-based female MC duo Vicious Cycle may not be a household name but the ladies are enjoying a much higher profile, thanks to the “RapFix Live” segment, “Get In The Game.” During the show, MTV News’ own Sway chooses an up-and-coming rapper to showcase and asks the “RapFix Live” guest of the week for their opinion on the new MCs.
During the G.O.O.D. Music edition of “RapFix Live,” featuring Pusha T of The Clipse, Big Sean and CyHi The Prynce, Sway chose Vicious Cycle’s “You People” clip for the “Get In The Game” segment. In response, Pusha, RapFix’s sitting judge for the week, gave the women glowing praise.
“As you can see, they are lyrical. They’re spitters,” said Push.
When Vicious Cycle’s Neeky Devro heard the Virginia native’s words, her reaction was physical, to say the least.
“I literally dropped to the floor,” she said.
Hailing from Lauryn Hill’s hometown of Maplewood, New Jersey and Dallas respectively, Money and Neeky Devro’s paths collided by way of the small but bubbling Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas hip-hop scene. Paired with her husband, also known as The Rapture in the rap duo The Co-Op, Money has been a fixture in the DFW. Neeky Devro’s ascent up the ranks in Dallas was hard earned as well, rhyming her way through collaborations with all-male crews. Collectively known as Vicious Cycle, their LP The Vagina Chronologues is, by Money’s words, just the beginning.
“To have a major artist refer to us as dope on MTV was priceless. It made all the years of hard work worth it,” said Money.
Neeky summed up their excitement by saying, “To be honest, I’ve never had a feeling like that before in my life. Being lyrical was frowned upon in the mainstream, so it’s really encouraging to know that people respect our craft.”
Want Sway to see your rhymes? Upload a clip of your music to Your.MTV.com showing your best work. A few ground rules: All submissions must be original music, contain no inappropriate language and — most of all — no lyrical biting! Every week, Sway will personally select a new artist to spotlight. So “Get in the Game” and maybe it’ll be you who gets some shine!
