Lil Wayne is free!
And as we heard earlier this week, Lil Tunechi's not going to waste any time getting back to work. According to a recent report, the rapper is planning to begin recording after leaving Rikers Island in New York City on Thursday—on the plane ride home! For the first time in years, he's been writing his lyrics down during his bid, so he's reportedly anxious to get back into the booth.
But aside from recording solo stuff, there are also plenty of artists out there looking to work with Weezy. Not necessarily because they want to capitalize on the press he's receiving, but because they didn't get a chance to record with him prior to serving his prison sentence. That's right, besides missing Drake's debut, Nicki Minaj's steady growth and a handful of other notable events, Wayne's also missed the rise of several artists whom he should meet in the studio immediately.
To help, RapFix created a checklist of the artists Wayne needs to check in with sooner than later. If Wayne's grind is still as strong as it was pre-prison, we fully expect these joints to hit—by the end of the week. Are you ready?
Lil Wayne x Waka Flocka Flame
When Wayne checked into jail, Waka Flocka was still basically "the tall guy with the dreads in Gucci Mane's videos." Fast forward eight months and Waka is running the South right now. Waka, featuring Wayne, is only a matter of time.
Lil Wayne x Cali Swag District
First order of business for post-prison Wayne: Someone teach him how to dougie!
Lil Wayne x Bruno Mars
There's a good chance Wayne knows Bruno thanks to the overwhelming success of B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" at the top of the year. But unless Bruno was on the "Slow Jams" playlist Wayne reportedly favored in prison, he's probably not up on Travis McCoy's "Billionaire" or "Just The Way You Are" yet. Trust, he will be.
Lil Wayne x B.o.B
Speaking of B.o.B, dude has been on an absolute tear this year (all the way to the #9 slot on the MTV Hottest MCs list!). Isn't it time he gets Wayne to drop a few bars on one of his hits?
Lil Wayne x Mike Posner
Lil Wayne x J. Cole
Cole's got Jay's cosign before Wayne went away, so there's a good chance Wayne is familiar with him. And if he's not? Well, Cole's Friday Night Lights mixtape drops next week. Is there time to slide one more verse on there, man?
Lil Wayne x Wiz Khalifa
We're gonna go out on a limb here and say Wayne's probably in the market for some of that stuff Wiz spends $10,000 a month on. Maybe these two could meet up, throw on Kush & Orange Juice and knock out a couple songs? Just an idea.
Lil Wayne x Odd Future
Still don't understand exactly what/who Odd Future is? Eh, don't sweat it—we're still trying to figure it out, too. From what we know so far, though, they seem like the type of clique Weezy would be enjoy. No shots.
Lil Wayne x Pusha T
Remember when Wayne and Clipse didn't get along? That should all be water under the bridge now, since Pusha's riding with frequent Wayne collaborator Kanye West these days. Can you imagine the punchlines that would be present with these two sitting together in the same studio?
Lil Wayne x Kanye West
And, speaking of Kanye West ... we know these two have worked together before. Many times, actually. But Wayne hasn't really worked with the post-808s & Heartbreak 'Ye much yet. All we have to say is, don't be surprised if Wayne shows up on G.O.O.D. Friday this week.
