Nick Cannon and his superstar wife Mariah Carey have finally confirmed they are expecting their first child. The couple appeared together on the "Today" show on this morning (October 28) to reveal that Carey was pregnant and “expecting in the spring.”
Until now, Carey only commented once on her blog, writing, “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes. But I am very superstitious. When the time is right, everyone will know—even Cindi Berger [my publicist.].”
Meanwhile, her hubby has been the couple’s mouthpiece amidst the pregnancy speculation. In the past, Cannon did not confirm nor deny the news but only explained that his wife “wants to keep as much privacy as she possibly can” and that “she’ll talk when she’s ready to talk.”
The former Nickelodeon star exudes such a playful and youthful character that his upcoming role as a father may surprise Cannon's fans.
Before marrying his 41 year-old wife, the California native previously appeared in teen movies like Drumline and Love Don’t Cost A Thing opposite ex-girlfriend Christina Milian. He previously proposed to Victoria’s Secret model and Kanye West’s latest muse Selita Ebanks, but the nuptials were called off shortly after the engagement took place. The 30 year-old rapper’s biggest record to date is "Gigalo," detailing all of the women he attracts and he has two successful MTV sketch comedy shows "Wild ‘N’ Out" and "Short Circuitz," under his belt. He even got his better half to settle down by wooing her with candy.
However, tying the knot with Mariah has proved to be not only a smart business choice for Cannon but also highlighted a more mature side to the man.
He’s now the Chairman of TeenNick cable network and has hosted "America’s Got Talent" for five seasons along with running a New York morning radio show. Most significantly, he's expressed his desire to have kids to anyone who will listen.
While attending the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day tennis event in New York in August, he told reporters, “I love kids. I’m all about kids.” he exclaimed. “I’m a big kid,”
He has said he wouldn’t mind twins, either.
“Yeah! Octomom. Nine kids at once,” he joked with Us Magazine.
But, on The "Today" show he seemed to be settling into his upcoming daddy duties with grown-up perspective. The couple admitted Mariah suffered a miscarriage early in their attempts to have children, but the experience drew them closer, which made today's announcement all the more special.
"It's absolutely emotional, but for so many reasons,” he shared. “The greatest gift on earth is a child."
Seems like now is definitely the right time for this celebrity couple.
