The chitter-chatter amongst hip-hop circles last night wasn't quite all about Waka Flocka’s hijacked BET Hip-Hop Awards performance or Rick Ross' union with MC Hammer but rather the rescue efforts of 33 Chilean miners trapped underground since early August,
Television outlet CNN broadcast live the first of three miners rescued from nearly 3,000 feet underground after a capsule was inserted beneath the surface. The miners had been trapped since August 5th and up until today were expected to remain there unti at least Christmas. News of the miners safe return back home was immediately celebrated on the hip-hop front.
"one time for the miners, of Chile'!" T.I. tweeted following the first rescue. Houstian Bun B touched on the rescue as well responding to fellow tweeter Amanda Diva who asked "What's up with the miners?" "Slowly but surely.. " Bun responded. 106 & Park host Rocsi also expressed her sentiments "God is truly remarkable the rescues 4 the Chilean miners are eye opening but what makes me smile is the spirit of the miners staying strong."
MTV News writer Jayson Rodriguez predicted the two month saga would soon be the subject of a few bars on an upcoming hip-hop track *waiting for 1st rapper to make reference to the rescued Chilean miners* /via @Combat_Jack My money is on Joe Budden."
Earlier yesterday President Barack Obama issued a heartfelt prayer asking for a safe return of the miners “Thoughts and prayers are with the brave Chilean miners, their families and men and women who have been working so hard to rescue them” said the POTUS in a statement. “Although the bailout is far from over and difficulties remain, we pray that God’s grace miners can emerge safely and quickly return to their families.”
And for those who don’t believe god answers prayers …
