If you liked the honest lyrics of Nicki Minaj's newest single "Right Thru Me," then you'll love her forthcoming clip.
In the video, directed by Richard Lee, who most recently led Eminem's "Not Afraid" video which was also extremely personal, Nicki ditches her crazy clothes and hair colors. Instead, she's showcasing a side of herself most of her fans have never seen before: a sensitive, softer one.
Last month, Minaj told MTV News on the Los Angeles set of "Right Thru Me" this was her plan because this song is extremely close to her heart.
"The song is [about] just being in awe at another human being's ability to know you so well," she said. "This is going to be different, in that, usually, I'm over the top, but in this one, I'm going to pull back a little bit."
Sporting plain black hair and pedestrian outfits, a plain clothes Nicki Minaj acts out the ups and downs of a relationship in "Right Thru Me" with a love interest. This is her third official single, following "Massive Attack" and "Check It Out," from her forthcoming highly anticipated LP Pink Friday, which drops November 23.
The Queens native scored three trophies overall at the BET Hip-Hop Awards filmed over the weekend: Rookie of the Year, People's Champ and the Made You Look award, which was awarded in recognition of her fashion flair.
Sporting a black dominatrix-like outfit, blond bob, pink nails and lipstick, Minaj took to the stage to accept her first award and was overcome by the recognition.
"Last year, I was here in anticipation of the cypher," she told the crowd, referring to the artist rap freestyles that run in between the award presentations and performances. "Now I'm here in anticipation of my debut. [Pink Friday, set for release November 23.] I'm paving the way for girls, I wanna thank all the girls of hip-hop."
