It's been a good week for Tech N9ne, the celebrated underground rapper from the Kansas City, Missouri.
First, Lil Wayne shouted him out on Monday during his first prison interview, telling Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex during a phone call that he would like to work with the rapper as a potential collaborator when the Cash Money Records superstar finishes his jail sentence.
"I been saying to myself that I really, really want to do a song with either Andre 3000 or my man, I really like my man Tech N9ne," Wayne told Flex.
Then yesterday, Tech N9ne notched the top spot on Billboard's Independent Albums chart with his latest offering, The Gates Mixed Place.
More impressive than those two feats, however, may be these two achievements: Tech N9ne barely missed out on debuting in the top 10 of the "Billboard 200" album chart, which includes all releases, landing at number 13, and in the current issue of XXL, the rapper was covered via a feature story, which is a rare occurance for a hip-hop artist without (one or more of the following:) a big radio smash, major label backing, or a viral online presecene.
Is it safe to say Tech N9ne is the undisputed underground king?
