‘Dante’s Inferno’ Movie Going Forward With ‘Evil Dead’ Remake Director

The feature film based on the EA 2010 hack and slash will have a director who’s pretty proficient with the blood and guts.

The news comes via Deadline, who confirm that “Evil Dead” remake writer-director Fede Alvarez is in talks to bring “Dante’s Inferno” to the big screen.

While “Dante’s Inferno” doesn’t appear to have kicked off a major franchise for developer Visceral and publisher EA (although there were hints that a sequel was in development), the action-oriented take on Dante’s epic poem still appears to have cinematic potential for EA and Universal. Universal nabbed the rights to a movie based on the game seven years ago, but since then, there’s been little forward momentum.

The game saw poet Dante Aligheri recast as a badass knight who dives into the nine circles of hell in order to rescue his beloved Beatrice. The third-person action game earned decent reviews from critics even as it was released into the increasingly crowded field of character action games.
