A couple of questions: do you like Diable? A fan of Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past? And what are your thoughts on pixels? We’re talking very pretty, as in jaw droppingly gorgeous pixels. Then you might want to check out Hyper Light Drifter.
It’s by Heart Machine, aka Alex Preston, who describes himself primarily as an illustrator, does his self profession passion for video games is quite evident in the following (he’s also worked on Samurai Gunn, so he definitely has some hands on experience as well):
As for what it’s all about, here’s a bit of the description:
“Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, steeped in blood and treasure hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease. Echoes of a dark and violent past from the dead eras resonate throughout and he can’t help but listen.
Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D Action RPG in the vein of the best 8-bit and 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.”
Preston isn’t a one man band; along for the ride is Beau Blyth, creator Samurai Gunn, and Rich Vreeland, who is also doing the soundtrack to another game we recommended that everyone Kickstart just yesterday.
The goal was $27,000, which has more than been met. As of this writing, it’s just past the $208,000 mark. With 25 days left to go, at this rate, it will easily reach the $220,000 stretch goal of PS4 and Vita versions handily. Though just to be on the safe side, you might consider donating yourself anyway.
