Turns Out, There Is A Way To Play 'Grand Theft Auto 5' On A Xbox 360 Without A Disc


Remember yesterday when we advised all owners of "GTA V" for the Xbox 360 to no install both discs? Well, as it turns out, there's a real reason behind Rockstar's suggestion. But thankfully, there's also a work around of sorts.

First, let's see the game running as Rockstar has advised everyone to do so, with just disc 1 installed and disc 2 in the drive, versus both discs installed on the same 360 hard drive:

The above, courtesy of Digital Foundry by the way, illustrates the jarring pop up that occurs with certain textures and objects. Though as one can also see, it's far less noticeable when the game is running normal speed.

Though Digital Foundry has also discovered a solution; installing the second disc on a USB flash drive nets zero performance issues. Take a look:

As you can see, the problems are gone, though they also state that "milage will vary". For best results, it's recommended that one gets a drive that's at least 16GB in size.
