Following in the webbed footsteps of last month’s “DuckTales: Remastered,” another Disney classic gets a gorgeous HD makeover. More than just receiving a fresh coat of pixie dust, though, “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse” has been crafted from the ground up. The core concept and characters–Mickey must still rescue Minnie from meanie Mizrabel–retain the appeal of the original, but Sega’s promising plenty of new surprises for the mouse ears-wearing masses.
While fans no longer need to be tethered to a Sega Genesis to enjoy Mickey’s castle-conquering romp, they can still expect a controller-chucking challenge; if my brief hands-on time with the title is any indication, precision platforming is still the name of the game. Players won’t be able to get their nostalgia-loving, thumb-blistering fix till later this week (“Castle of Illusion” hits PSN tomorrow, XBLA and PC on Wednesday), but the above launch trailer offers a tease of Mickey’s magical return.
