Rare May Bring Back Classic Franchises Out Of Retirement, But Not In The Way You Would Like

When the Xbox 360 arrived, Rare brought a HD revival of their N64 classic, Perfect Dark, to the party. And for the Xbox One, their cult favorite arcade (and SNES) brawler Killer Instinct is getting a similar treatment.

Though Rare is not involved here; Double Helix are the ones behind that particular game. The creators, on the other hand, are busy prepping Kinect Sports Revival, much to the chagrin of their longtime fans.

But there's good news; Rare is interested in reviving other classic franchises of theirs for the One. Though what they have in mind may still turn off certain fans.

In an interview with OXM, Rare's creative director Simon Woodroffe states:

"We've got ideas for most older Rare IP, you won't be surprised to hear. There's quite a lot of desire to do that, and Viva Pinata, Conker... Banjo's very popular internally, a lot of people want to do stuff with Banjo."

Okay, so it's not Battletoads, Blast Corps, or Jet Force Gemini as some might hope. But Banjo is not bad, right? Well, get ready for the bad news: these ideas that Woodroffe speak of, they're mostly for the Kinect.

It was also noted that they'd also take another stab at Perfect Dark, this time with motion sensing controls. Given how the hardcore gamers all love Joanna Dark, and how much they also hate the Kinect… We will simply have to wait and see.
