Yes, 'The Last Guardian' Is Still In The Works

The following tweet from the jokey Twitter account, one that satirizes President and CEO of Sony Corporation Kaz Hirai more or less says it all:

And indeed, immediately after Sony's Gamescom presser, in which they revealed a mind-numbing amount of games coming to the PS3, PS4, and Vita, the fist question that many people asked was: "Where the hell is Last Guardian?!?!"

The good news is that it's still in the works. It wasn't quietly cancelled like many have assumed, or keep expecting to hear. According to Polygon, the now former head of Team Ico, Fumito Ueda, was recently asked about its status by Famitsu magazine:

"It's under earnest development. However, SCE Japan Studio, who's working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now."

For those who haven't been keeping track, "The Last Guardian" was first revealed all the way back at E3 2009, though development began in 2007. It was supposed to come out during the holidays in 2011, but was then put on the back burner by Sony.

Around that time Ueda decided to leave Sony for reasons that are still unclear, so it was assumed that that the writing was on the wall. But it was then immediately revealed that he was still working on the game, just on a purely freelance basis, and Last Guardian was essentially given "it's done when it's done status."

Again, nice to know it's still alive at least. Though one has to assume that, at this point, it's now earmarked for the PS4.
