With all the talk of the upcoming next gen consoles, including all the games that will come along for the ride, there's still one current gen release that everyone is aching for. And that game is Dark Souls 2.
And publisher Namco Bandai has just announced a special closed beta, arriving later this fall. Only the strong need apply we are told, though only those with PS3s should bother as well.
The press release also tells us that:
"The depth of the Dark Souls 1 Closed-Beta experience will truly test players’ skill, intestinal fortitude, and their sheer will to survive. The Dark Souls 2 Closed-Beta will delve into one of the most treacherous areas of the Dark Souls 2 world; players will not only get an opportunity to explore an entirely new area of the game, but also experience overwhelming enemy encounters, diabolical challenges, and the unrelenting difficultly that only the developers at FromSoftware can deliver."
So it would appear that we'll be seeing an entirely brand new part of the game, not anything seen thus far in previous demos, which is certainly neat. Though, once more, it's only available to PS3 owners.
No real reason is given, though one might guess that it could be that the PlayStation version is either the lead dev platform, or simply put, that's where most Dark Souls players resides. Though don't tell that to PC purists, who believe their version of whatever game is the very best, period.
As for how to sign up, there are no real instructions, other than to start paying attention to the official Dark Souls Facebook page starting September 5th. The closed beta kicks off exactly one mont later, on October 5th.
